I am available for presentations and workshops in schools and libraries across Pennsylvania and beyond. My books are geared towards kids in grades 7 through 12, but I can present to kids as young as first grade. (I’ve presented to kindergarten for Career Day… I can handle anything. Yes, horses are my favorite animal. Yes, green is my favorite color. And yes, I like pizza, too.)
Presentations
I offer presentations detailing the overall storytelling and publishing process, and vary the amount of detail provided based on audience age. This presentation answers questions like:
- How does an author come up with an idea?
- How long does it take to write a book?
- What do you do once the book is finished?
- How do the words go from the computer screen to a physical book we can hold in our hands?
- How do you get your book on the shelf in the store?
- And more.
Upon request, I can offer additional presentations specially geared towards your audience. Please contact me to collaborate.
Workshops
The Art of Drafting: Why you should never compare your work to a published piece
If I had a dime for every time I heard the words, “I’ve tried writing, but I’m just not that good,” well, I’d probably be a millionaire by now. Your writing is not the problem. Your fear is. Don’t be afraid to let your first draft stink!
This workshop encourages writers to learn why they should never compare their writing to others’, how to push through first drafts, and what second – and even third – drafts are for. Material changes to suit audience age and ability.
